No stranger to new and emerging marketing channels, company founder and Head Coach Jonathan Ressler found himself called upon to serve as a top gun social media guru for some of the largest consumer brands in the world. Amidst his agency’s success -The Big Fat Mouth - received accolades and awards in the social media marketing industry, catapulting Ressler’s reputation to one of the best known social media experts in the world.
Ressler was contacted by numerous professional athletes, celebrities and brands including Barnes & Noble, The Pittsburgh Steelers, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Smile Train, Bravo TV and others and what evolved quickly was a realization that athletes were a niche apart from all the others. They were lacking even the most basic social media training yet had the potential to lose the most from their ignorance. The situation seemed to be getting worse as he fielded phone call after phone call from athletes in dire need of direction, so he launched Social Media Coach for Athletes to address the growing need for expert direction in the area of social media.
Ressler is also the founder of The Big Fat Mouth; a social media marketing agency that helps brands harness the power of social media to get tangible results. Some know Ressler as a guerilla and stealth marketing pioneer. Others call him a really smart corporate strategist and a social media visionary. And a handful (himself included), say he’s an irreverent fat guy. The truth is most are happy to call him their Social Media Badass because anyone who has even seen him speak or worked with him knows he’s got unparalleled insight into how companies can solve their most vexing marketing problems.
Prior to founding The Big Fat Mouth, Ressler served as Chief Marketing Officer of Ckrush, Inc. a public company in the entertainment and social media arena. While at Ckrush, Ressler designed and built three social networks in the entertainment space with over five-million registered users, 70,000 independent bands, 30,000 DJ’s and 120,000 actors and models. He also designed and implemented Live Mansion:The Movie, which was the first film cast and produced entirely by an online community. Before Ckrush, Jonathan served as Chief Marketing Officer of Juice Wireless, where he nurtured and grew Juicecaster’s registered user base ten-fold and led the rebranding of the award-winning JuiceCaster social media product. He also played a key role in the refinancing of the company. Before Juice Wireless, in 2006, Ressler served as CMO of Oasys Mobile, a public gaming and marketing company with an award-winning international mobile application.. While at Oasys he negotiated and sealed deals with some of the largest and most recognized brands in the world including The NBA, Wal-Mart, Sports Illustrated and The Wall Street Journal, leading them into the mobile/social space.
Jonathan Ressler originally founded Big Fat in 1999 upon identifying a void in the marketing industry – a company that could “think AND do!” He’s widely recognized as a visionary in the marketing world and has been profiled and quoted by major media outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, CNN, 60 Minutes, Business Week and many others. Ressler’s obsession with pop culture and brand relevance propelled Big Fat to become recognized as principal leaders in Guerilla, Stealth, Event and Entertainment Marketing. As President/CEO he developed and communicated the vision and the corporate culture of the company. As an all-hands-on-deck leader, he maintained consistent contact with all clients while weighing in heavily on all client service issues.
Before entering the marketing industry, Ressler was the owner and operator of 10 nightclubs and bars in New York City. Realizing that everyone sold the same product he looked for a way to set his establishments apart from the thousands of others in the crowded New York scene. His strategy to “sell fun” rather than just food and drinks paid off and his establishments were among the most popular in New York City.
In 1992, he invented the Human Bowling Ball, which first propelled him into the national spotlight. Human Bowling is a game, which straps patrons inside of a four-foot, ribbed steel ball and rolls them across the floor into six pins, each five feet high. With articles in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, People Magazine, and appearances on Good Day New York, Good Morning America, Live with Regis and Kathy Lee and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno among others, Ressler’s place in the nightlife world was cemented. In 1992, Ressler incorporated Human Bowling, Inc., which marketed and sold more than 2,500 Human Bowling sets throughout the world.
Ressler attended and played football at The University of Delaware and currently resides in Cary, North Carolina with his wife and three children.
